To start water service, please contact [413] 475-3037 or email BFWD@bernardstonwater.org. You’ll need to complete a service application and will be responsible for the costs associated with the installation and inspection of all water lines.
As of September 8, 2022, the residential rate is $2 per 1,000 gallons with a minimum base rate of $30 per biannual billing cycle. Please check the District’s website or contact the Billing Clerk for the most up-to-date rate sheet.
Water bills are issued biannually. They are due within 30 days of the billing date. Late payments may incur a fee. Bills can be paid by check through the mail or by appointment at the District office. Checks should be made payable to “Bernardston Fire & Water District”.
For billing inquiries, contact the District’s Billing Clerk at [413] 475-3037 or Billing@bernardstonwater.org
If you suspect a leak, contact the Water Commissioners. You may also want to check your meter reading or look for visible signs of a leak on your property. It is always a good idea to set up an account with EyeOnWater so you can monitor your water usage in real time.
Do not attempt to shut off water at the street valve yourself. Contact the District office at [413] 475-3037 or BFWD@bernardstonwater.org to schedule a shutoff by a certified employee.
The Bernardston Fire & Water District maintains the water lines up to the curb stop (usually near the street). Property owners are responsible for the water line from the curb stop to the building.
Please notify the Billing Clerk at Billing@bernardstonwater.org in advance so we can schedule a final meter reading and ensure billing is transferred to the new owner. This is normally a function of the real estate attorneys involved in the sale of the property.
For emergencies such as water main breaks or loss of service, call a Water Commissioner immediately.
